Waiter / Waitress (0447)

We are looking for an experienced Hospitality candidate to join our team at Audley Flete House.

Audley Flete House retirement village is a beautiful Grade I listed country house, in 12 acres of Grade II listed landscaped grounds, near Modbury in Devon. It is a remote location and the successful candidate will need to have their own transportation to reach the village.

The role of the Waiter/Waitress has a responsibility to ensure the highest quality of service is provided for all guests. It involves regular communication with both colleagues and owners and is a highly customer centered role.  The focus is on providing a warm and friendly food and beverage service and setting a great example to our warm, empathetic and efficient team.  You’ll take pride in your work by paying particular attention to the detail for our owners and customers who expect the finer things in life as well as having the opportunity to be involved in the creation and running of regular hospitality events at the village.

You must have your own mode of transportation due to the village having limited public transport links nearby.

Hours of Work

3 days per week (24 hours - 09:00 - 17:30) on a two week pattern

  • Week 1: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
  • Week 2 Wednesday, Thursday & Sunday 

The role

  • Ensuring that all peak mealtimes are effectively covered in the main restaurant, and coffee is available throughout the day, creating a positive and friendly environment.
  • Responsible for ensuring our owners and guests receive exceptional service, well presented food, and served efficiently in a relaxed atmosphere.
  • Ensuring all tables are set up and cleared properly by respecting pre-set standards.
  • Ensuring familiarity with the menus to answer guests queries and effectively communicating orders to the kitchen efficiently.
  • Assisting with daily menu planning and coordinating menus for the events.
  • Cashing up, banking and till procedures on a daily basis.
  • Serving guests, dealing with issues and ensuring the highest quality of service is maintained.
  • Event planning and organisation by assisting in the marketing and coordination of regular social events at the village.
  • Dealing with customer queries, complaints and comments in a diplomatic manner.
  • Covering reception and kitchen duties when necessary.
  • Adhering to legislative requirements such as COSHH, Fire Safety, Food safety, Health & Safety, and Safeguarding of our owners
  • Maintaining high standards of comfort, cleanliness, and hygiene throughout the bistro, restaurant and customer areas of the village
  • Understanding and maintaining Brand Standards
  • Understanding and and working to regulations around the license and law, health and safety as well as the fire procedure in the village.
  • Maintaining the highest standards of dress appearance and hygiene at all times in line with Audley’s uniform standards.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience in hospitality and handling cash (preferably).
  • Taking pride in everything you do is an essential quality for this role.
  • A ‘can do’ attitude and an organised approach that ensures things get done.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and driven by standards and sales opportunities.
  • Eager to learn and develop.
  • Hands on and flexible approach to daily duties and shift patterns.
  • Warm, professional and empathetic, as well as smartly turned out.
