Health and Safety Advisor (3030)

This is a Regional Position covering a large geographical area across the Midlands and South, (With occasional travel to the North) so a clean driving license and own car is essential. All mileage and travel costs are expensed.

Role Purpose

The Health & Safety Advisor will play a key role in the implementation of the Health and Safety Strategy in line with the ISO45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System across Audley Group. This role involves close collaboration with the Operations Team, General Managers, and Facilities Managers to develop and implement safe systems of work, while providing consistent, visible support to both Village and Care teams.

Working to support the Health & Safety Manager, the Advisor will help build and promote a strong, proactive health and safety culture throughout the organisation. This includes driving initiatives that prevent accidents and incidents, reduce insurance claims, and support the achievement of the company’s health and safety objectives and performance targets.

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Health & Safety Manager in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Audley Group Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS), ensuring continued compliance with ISO 45001 across all sites
  • Provide competent day-to-day health and safety advice to Operations and Village teams, fostering a positive safety culture through effective collaboration
  • Conduct internal health and safety audits and inspections, identifying both best practices and areas of non-compliance, and deliver clear, actionable recommendations for improvement
  • Assist in the creation, review, and continuous improvement of operational risk assessments and safe systems of work
  • Support the implementation of health and safety-related change initiatives, ensuring alignment with Audley Group policies and standards
  • Stay up to date with relevant legislation and industry standards; assist the Health & Safety Manager in advising key stakeholders on legal implications, emerging trends, and best practices
  • Act as a liaison with external enforcement bodies (e.g. HSE, local authorities) on behalf of the Health & Safety Manager, including matters related to food safety and fire compliance
  • Contribute to the preparation of Health & Safety performance reports for the Risk and Governance Committee, identifying trends and key issues while supporting the development of improvement strategies
  • Identify and escalate deficiencies in safe systems of work or operational practices that may pose risks to health and safety
  • Investigate accidents and incidents where required, identifying root causes and recommending preventive measures to avoid recurrence
  • Collect, manage, and input health and safety-related data into the organisation’s enterprise risk management system

Key Skills & Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Advisor, ideally within a multi-site operational environment
  • Holds a recognised Health & Safety qualification such as the NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)
  • Minimum TechIOSH membership, with a preference for candidates working towards CertIOSH
  • Comprehensive understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation, regulations, and industry standards
  • Skilled in developing risk assessments and safe systems of work
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting accident and incident investigations
  • Track record of promoting a culture of high compliance through effective coaching, training, and guidance across all levels of an organisation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify hazards and implement appropriate control measures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Able to produce clear, structured, and concise written reports and documentation
  • Holds a valid UK driving licence, with access to a vehicle insured for business use
  • Willing and able to travel nationally, including occasional overnight stays
